Book Buying Habits Tag

Hello readers,
I haven’t posted in a few months, but I saw Space and Sorcery’s post on book buying habits and thought it would be a good restart. My book buying habits have changed a lot since I started blogging, so I’m excited to discuss my preferences!

Where do you buy books?

I read a lot on my kindle so mostly from Amazon (I know). If I’m buying a physical copy of a book I usually pre-order from Amazon or go to Barnes and Noble. Occasionally I buy from Indie bookstores, but that’s more of a “treat” for me since it’s expensive and hard to find the books I need.

Do you ever pre-order books? If so, do you do so in store or online?

I guess I already answered this, but I started pre-ordering books after I started blogging. I actually didn’t know you could pre-order books before I saw other bloggers talking about it. Since then I’ve pre-ordered a few different books from Amazon (and now I have to go see about this pre-ordering in store business…)

On average how many books do you buy in a month?

This is a hard one to answer since I’m super inconsistent. I usually buy a lot of books at once and then go a while without buying any. I got a lot of books for Christmas so I’m trying [and failing] not to buy more until I finish those.

Do you use your local library? If so, how many books can/do you borrow at a time?

I love my local library, but their selections are limited. I often can’t find what I need from there so I forget to look. But, I recently started using their app so I can download audiobooks and e-books, which has made things a lot easier! I’ve found the best things to borrow are classics and popular books I’m not sure I want to buy.

What is your opinion on library books?

I like the option of using the library instead of buying books, but there are a few downsides. I’m not great at reading books within a deadline so that can get stressful and, like I mentioned, the library often doesn’t have the books I’m looking for.

How do you feel about second-hand books?

I’ll buy second hand if they’re in good condition. It can be hard to buy second hand books because going to a store I have no guarantee I’ll find what I’m looking for. I’ll sometimes look at the second hand options on Amazon, but the shipping costs often negate any money I would save on buying second hand.

Do you keep you read and to-read piles together/on the same bookshelf?

I keep most of my TBR on a separate shelf, but it’s not big enough to hold all of it right now. The rest of my TBR is mixed with my other books, because I don’t expect to read those books soon.

Do you plan to read all the books you own?

No. A lot of the books I own I stole from my mom when she decided to get rid of her bookshelf along with most of her books (she’s strictly a kindle-reader now). Plus, I aged out of a lot of children’s books I never got to. I don’t expect to read many of those.

What do you do with books you own that you feel you’ll never read/felt you didn’t enjoy?

Convince myself that I’ll read them *someday* when I’m in the mood :). Feel guilty that I bought them in the first place (if they’re not the ones from my mom). I’ll probably donate them someday, when I finally accept that I don’t have to read everything.

Have you ever been on a book buying ban?

Yes. My mom used to limit my book buying on her kindle to once a week because I was out of control.

Do you feel that you buy too many books?
