Long Term Projects for Word Wilderness

Hello readers!
While I was reading everyone’s 2020 wrap up posts, I came across some long term projects that caught my attention. The first is The SFF Countries Project created by Annemieke. After reading The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter I’ve been interested in finding more fantasy and sci-fi that’s based on countries besides the US and England so I think this project came at the perfect time for me. I also love that it allows me to keep track of the books I’ve read on here and possibly create a resource for other readers.

The SFF Countries Project

SFF Countries Project Requirements

  • Has to be read by owner of the list
  • Has to be written or translated to English
  • No England or USA on this list*
  • Has to be a sci-fi or fantasy book
  • Preferably books written by authors of the same cultural heritage or needs to have decent rep of culture/country as deemed by own voice reviewers
  • Can have multiple entries per country
  • Historical Fantasy or Alternate Universes can be added. Just make a note for this after the book.

*I might include books featuring under-represented cultures from England and the US (e.g. Black Sun, which is based on Native American history).

An Ember in the Ashes Series, Daevabad Trilogy

I’m also starting The Great Series Read Project, which was started by Caitlin from Realms of My Mind.

Since I’ve started blogging, I’ve had a lot of trouble finishing the series I start. As soon as I finish the first book there are 10 other books on my TBR demanding my attention, so this project is a great way for me to track the series I’m reading so I don’t forget about them.

Current List of Series I’m Trying to Get Through

  • An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
  • Locke and Key by Joe Hill*
  • Monstress by Marjorie M. Lui*
  • The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells
  • The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
  • The Locked Tomb Trilogy by Tamsyn Muir
  • The Great Cities Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin
  • The Inheritance Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin
  • The Burning by Evan Winter
  • The Sandman by Neil Gaiman*
  • The Machineries of Empire by Yoon Ha Lee
  • The Dark Profit Saga by Zachary J. Pike
  • Amra Thetys by Michael McClung
  • Hollow Crown by Zoraida Cordova
  • The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison
  • The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski
  • The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan
  • Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson
  • The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee
  • Discworld by Terry Pratchett
  • The Daevabad Trilogy by S.A. Chakraborty

*Graphic Novel Series

(There are probably many more I will add later)

Ideally, I’d like to write full reviews for every book I read in a series, but I know that’s an unrealistic goal. What I’ll do is write reviews for most of the books, especially new releases, but not for all of them. If I don’t have much to say about each book in a series I’ll write short reviews on The StoryGraph and write a long review to cover the whole series.

Since both of these are long term projects I’m going to create pages where I track my progress and leave links to my reviews of each book.

I’ll also include my yearly progress in my end of the year wrap up posts.
