Review: The Girl From the Sea by Molly Knox Ostertag

I actually didn’t plan on reading The Girl from the Sea, but a graphic novel book club I’m in picked it for this month and it was available at my library so I figured… why not? Reader, I flew through the story in one day. I was actually surprised when I found out the page count was over 200 pages because it had gone by so quickly. It turned out, this cute and uplifting graphic novel was exactly what I needed. I’m so excited to share my thoughts on The Girl from the Sea with you for my first official graphic novel review!!!

as I sat down to write my review for The Spanish Love Deception I became angrier and angrier at the way this misleading enemies to lovers rom-com turned out.

How to Start Reading Graphic Novels

In 2020 I decided I would start reading graphic novels. I was hesitant at first because I knew very little about comics/graphic novels beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and navigating decades of superhero comics seemed overwhelming. Plus, superheroes have never been my go-to for reading material. I’ve always preferred high fantasy stories about monsters and elves. My first experience with Marvel was on screen, and I had little interest in exploring the comics that inspired those movies. That changed when I came across other bloggers talking about graphic novels, and I started to get curious. I decided to take the plunge by starting with Monstress by Marjoie Liu and Sana Takeda. I’ve since read or started 4 other stories. I’ve learned a lot since I first picked up Monstress with no idea what I was getting into, so I’ve decided to share what I’ve learned about how to start reading graphic novels.

Top 10 Female Authors on My TBR

I tend to shy away from posts about my TBR because I’m a hopeless mood reader, and can leave books on my TBR for months to years. But today I’ll make an exception to talk about the top 10 female authors on my TBR and why I’m excited to read their books.

Book Reviews: 2 Books That Didn’t Work For Me

I have a hard time admitting to myself when I don’t like a book. I’ll make excuses like “I’m just not in the mood”, “It’ll get better”, “I just have to try harder to understand the ‘deeper meaning'”. While all of these statements might occasionally be true, I also have to get better at admitting when a book just doesn’t capture my attention. With that in mind, here are two books that didn’t work for me.

A Comparison of Goodreads vs. The StoryGraph

When I first heard about The StoryGraph I was ecstatic. Goodreads never really worked for me. It was ugly and felt like a chore to keep organized. Finally, I had a new platform with built-in statistics and filters to help me track my reading without all the hassle.
