Hello Readers!
It’s Wyrd & Wonder season yet again, and wow did this month sneak up on me! It felt like a week ago that I was first seeing Lisa’s Wyrd & Wonder read-along announcement and thinking there was no way I could wait a month. Welp! April flew by before I knew it. Now it’s time for my favorite fantasy celebration.

If you’ve followed my blog over the years, you may already know that Wyrd & Wonder is my favorite blogging event. It takes place during the entire month of May and is dedicated to celebrating the genre of fantasy. Our hosts are Imyril, Lisa, Jorie, Annemieke, and Ariane, who all have fabulous book blogs of their own. Check out their blogs to get updates on Wyrd & Wonder and more details on the event!

What Will I Be Posting This Month?

For this Wyrd & Wonder, I’ll be keeping my posts to a minimum. My schedule has been hectic the past couple of months, and I just don’t have the time and energy to write weekly posts. My priority is to participate in the Howl’s Moving Castle read-along. I have a couple of other books on my TBR, so I may also write up reviews for those if I have time.

My TBR

Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

The first book I’ll for sure be reading this month is Howl’s Moving Castle, which is one of this year’s Wyrd & Wonder read-alongs. I was thrilled when I saw the choice for this year’s read-along. I recently watched the movie adaption by Studio Ghibli and immediately fell in love. I’ve heard the book is very different from the movie but still amazing. I’m so excited to see what it’s like!

The story (in the movie) follows Sophie, a strong-willed young woman who nonetheless struggles to voice her needs and see herself as worthy of love. When a powerful witch claims Sophie attempted to take what was hers, Sophie finds herself trapped with a life-altering curse. Reeling from the shock of being cursed, Sophie sets out on a journey to find a way to break the curse.

Hall of Bones by Time Hardie

When an ancient evil takes over a rival clan, Rothgar must face an enemy far greater than any clan conflict.

I haven’t heard much about Hall of Bones since it’s niche fantasy, but I’m really excited to see what it’s like. It has a very interesting premise. The mysterious “ancient evil” enemy is, of course, exciting, but what I’m most intrigued by is the potential for “rival clans to reluctant allies”. The blurb doesn’t give much away, so I guess I’ll have to read it to see what it’s about!

Yona of the Dawn by Mizuho Kusanagi

Yona of the Dawn is the most recent manga I’ve been obsessing over. It’s literally one of the best stories I’ve ever read. Literally. Like, put down what you’re doing right now, find the manga or anime, and check out this story!

The story begins with a naive young princess whose only concerns are her unruly red hair and the crush she has on her childhood friend. Her father, the emperor of a small kingdom, is a soft-spoken, kind man who indulges her every wish. But kind men do not make strong rulers, and Yona’s life shatters when a group of rebels rise up against her father. She barely escapes the palace with her life. Her only options now are to become strong enough to survive or perish.

    1. Yeah, it’s happened a couple years in a row now. I think my schedule is just busy now that it’s not the middle of COVID anymore.
